The Park Tool DAG-2.2 Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge is an indispensable shop tool that can be used to both measure and straighten misaligned derailleur hangers, diagnosing and solving many shifting problems. Compatible with virtually all derailleur-equipped bicycles, and adjusts to work with wheels from 16" to 29"+ . Use of the DAG-2.2 is relatively straightforward (full instructions are included with the tool): EASY TO USE The tool is installed in place of the derailleur, extending the plane of the hanger to magnify any alignment issues. The sliding indicator is set to the depth of the rim surface and locked in place. This measurement is checked against other points on the wheel to determine the amount of misalignment. The shaft of the tool is used to bend the derailleur hanger into alignment. Finally, the indicator is reset to the rim to check the adjustment. Once this process is complete for horizontal alignment, it is repeated for vertical alignment. BUILT TO LAST The DAG-2.2 is made of heavy gauge chrome-plated steel with a large inner shaft for added strength. The replaceable threaded tip features extra clearance and reach to fit most frame/hanger combos including low clearance thru axle hangers. TRUSTED SINCE 1963 Since our origins in the back of a bike shop in 1963, it has been our sole mission to design and manufacture high-quality tools that empower mechanics and riders of all skill levels to service their bicycles. As with our other 500+ tools, the DAG-2.2 is a product of our decades of experience and expertise in the industry, in the shop and on the trail.

I've used this more times than I care to admit. Bike got knocked over in the wind, and fell over once in my office when I was getting something out of a draw behind it. Both times, the derailleur hangar got out of wack and would have destroyed itself and my wheel if left as is.This tool is fairly intuitive if you are comfortable doing some of your own simple maintenance, and within 3-4 minutes, the hangar is perfectly aligned. Much easier if you use a bike stand, but it is doable sitting on the floor as well. Just watch a youtube video on how to use it, and you're golden. It's a simple design. It's made incredibly well: This thing will survive nuclear Armageddon. Could you build one yourself and save $70? Sure. Do you want to? Heck no. Worth every penny and could save you from a wheel rebuild if your derailleur gets ingested into your spokes. Your shifting will be noticeably smoother as well. Just don't forget to tweak the limits of your derailleur after using this.
