For folks that chain frequently with basic hook and link configurations this thing really allows you to get your chains on right the first time. Less broken cross links, less effort. Given the proper time And patience you can get a tire chain on without the tool almost as tight, but just not quite there without a bit of struggle. If I’m chaining multiple times a night or even just the once this thing saves me a lot of hassle. Nobody wants to struggle with chains when the chain up area is cold, overcrowded, and everything is wet. Splash from drivers not moving over to the hammer lane is obnoxious. I’m in and out in 10-20 min tops.I drape the over my tires as straight and even as i can. Roll back or forward on them depending on the slope direction maybe a foot. Plenty of room now to dig around the tire and hook the back link by hand. I usually go second to the tightest i can get.Tug and straighten, and using the tool i try to get the second tightest link i can get with it on the outside. Too tight and they’ll be near impossible to get off. This method allows me to get the chain on sometimes tight enough to not even need to lock all the cams, sometimes not any. Rarely ever use more than two bungees on a tire unless we’re running dry pavement with a chain requirement and the links start breaking.Always had the tension bracket type chains that are basically the same idea except with the arm built into the outside connector to get the chain on a couple links tighter than you could by hand. Moved to another company that used the plain hook to link and this tool saved my life. Used to only be able to buy these by sending in a check. Now they’re available on demand. Couldn’t be more satisfied, in time chaining alone I’m sure I’ve saved weeks of my life in the few years I’ve been using these things.
